Under the Mountain - 2009Index/Liberty Films - 91 min. UPC 9398521351031; 0031398124696 7613059401280(Blu-ray) Cast: Tom Cameron, Sophie McBride, Oliver Driver, Leon Wadham, Sam Neill. Screenplay: Matthew Grainger, Jonathan King from the novel by Maurice Gee; Director of Photography: Richard Bluck; Original Music: Victoria Kelly; Sound Designer: Tim Prebble; Editing: Chris Plummer; Production Designer: Ralph Davies; Art Direction: Nick Bassett; Set Decoration: Verena Jonker; Costume Design: Kiri Rainey; Special Effects Supervisor: Brendon Durey; Visual Effects Supervisor: Charlie McClellan; Producers: Richard Fletcher, Matthew Grainger, Jonathan King; Director: Jonathan King When teenage twins Rachel and Theo Matheson investigate the old house next door, from their Auckland relatives, they discover the Wilberforces - shape-shifting creatures that lurk beneath Auckland's ring of extinct volcanoes. Guided by the mysterious Mr Jones and with the help of their older cousin Ricky, the twins must rekindle the unique powers they once shared if they are to destroy this ancient evil - before it destroys them. This is a children's story and therefore would have been better served by having pre-teens as the lead actors, but it is not an adult horror flick, which a number of reviewers have apparantly forgotten. Recommended. Censor Rating: PG-13 - Review rating: B- |
