Logan, an ex-gang leader, has left the gang life to raise his daughter, Tori. When Tori is murdered by an opposing gang in town, a gang war in inevitable and Logan must choose between revenge or forgiveness as things escalate quickly. 'Broken' is a modern-day retelling of the true mid-1800's New Zealand story, 'Tarore and her Book', made popular by author Joy Crowley. Primarily shot in Gisborne, Anaura Bay and along the East Coast of North Island and on a very low budget. I found this to be much better than expected, especially given the lack of experienced actors. Appropriate soundtrack and better than average photography. My only complaint with the DVD concerns the subtitles - I appreciate having the option, but when Maori is spoken I do not think "Foreign Language Spoken" is neither accurate nor appropriate.
